Rep. Jason Bartlett out and proud

From Drinking Liberally in New Milford:

State Rep. Jason Bartlett put rumors to rest Tuesday when he announced publicly that he's gay.

Bartlett, a Democrat who represents portions of Bethel, Redding and Danbury, said he has been open about his sexual orientation with relatives and decided now was the time to speak publicly.

"For me the decision came down to why not now," said Bartlett, 41, during a meeting with The News-Times Tuesday. "To me this is about having a conversation with my larger family - the people of Greater Danbury who voted for me."

Via GayPolitics.com:
The announcement makes Bartlett the nation’s first and only openly LGBT African American state legislator.
I am glad for him that he feels comfortable enough to come out. This should be a non-issue but some close minded individuals may try to make it one. It is not likely that he has the hypocrisy baggage of your typical republican on this issue.
At last year's JJB Dinner, I spoke with Jason about the important issues. Here's the video of our discussion:

thank you for not bashing him because he co-chaired the Hillary Clinton Connecticut Steering Committee. HE's a good representative and is so accessible to his constituents. I'd trade him for my legislator in a HEARTBEAT.

For the record, Scarce over at MLN is the definition of why I hate ObamaItes. They've actually become more tiresome and annoying than Bushies.

Kool aid, anyone?

We can surely be a passionate bunch, us Democrats. Sometimes people get a little carried away with emotion. I think the comparison of politics to sports is quite appropriate; we all like to root for our team.

But we do need reminding now and again that there are bigger issues than our personal likes and dislikes. We have to remember that the main objective this year is to put a Democrat in the White House.

Jason IS a good representative, and a good guy in general, and I applaud his courage in publicly claiming his orientation. Who cares if he's involved in Hillary's campaign? I'm sure he'll work just as hard for Barack if he gets the nom.

And while his stance on seating the Michigan and Florida delegates differs from mine (and I suspect it will be resolved fairly), we need to remember that we're all on the same side.
