Packing up for the night

Politics will always break your heart.

Hunter S. Thompson said that. I kind of get what he was saying now.

It's difficult to lose, especially when the campaign got so contentious toward the end. But as bad as it is to lose, it's worse to lose in November.

And we need to get a Democrat, any Democrat, into the governor's office. Or we won't see anything get accomplished over the next four years.

So, support Dan & Nancy in November. They're going to need all the help they can get against Foley's unlimited budget and typical Republican lack of restraint when it comes to dirty campaigning. If you thought this contest was brutal, just wait for the shitstorm that will descend on the state during the next three months!

I want to thank Ned Lamont for his selfless campaign. He didn't need to run again, but he wanted to contribute and saw this as the best way to do so. I'll sleep well knowing I supported the nobler man in this contest.

And of course, I want to thank my blogging mate Kirby, who has a much longer drive home tonight than I do. She made this fun, despite the outcome.

Lastly, thank you CT Joyce, for everything.

I will not be voting for that scumbag Malloy in November. For the first time in my life I will vote GOP for governor for CT.

Can't stand him. He's sneaky, slimy and ran Stamford into the toilet. All the polls had Lamont beating Foley in November and yet Malloy had to run. I don't give a crap about his experience. He can't win in November. I just hope once he loses he just goes away.

You guys are the greatest.

Make mad passionate love to your wife tonight as I will with mine . . . well as near as a senile old coot can manage. :-)

Tried to keep track of this from Cairo. Saw how Malloy conducted his campaign and became pretty disgusted. Came back to CT and made sure to vote absentee for Lamont before we left on our road-trip. I'm just disappointed right now.

According to the most recent SotS statistics (Oct. 2009), there were 751,612 active Democrats registered in Connecticut. The AP total for this primary is 151,600 voters. That's around 20%.
Where was everybody? Is this a preview for November. Be very afraid.

Thanks for your comments, folks. I'm afraid Mr. Kirby might have to wait till morning, Branford Boy. [smile]

I, too am very concerned about turnout -- it's a shame so few people participated. I know the primaries were moved from September because it was too late for winners to get their campaigns up and running with only 6 weeks left, but this is just awful.

I'm with you, Bob. Connecticut can't afford another four years with a Republican governor. If a person can't be enthusiastic about Malloy, then hold hold your nose.

Another tough night in CT. Feel bad for Ned. Thanks for the updates, Bob & Kirby--you guys are fantastic.

I suppose I'm just not used to being even partially mis-aligned with the observations and banter here at CTBob. The vitriol directed at Malloy is disheartening to me. It gives me pause, but I still (stay back!) voted for him yesterday. It pained me to do so, since I was so very much in Ned's camp in '06, and still am to a degree, but could not quite pull the lever this time. Maybe I have double standards. My choice was made.

I think Bob's intention of voting for Malloy in November is the grown-up and rightful thing to follow through on. I expect Ned will vote for Malloy as well. Those of you expressing your intention of not voting or voting for Foley: Please: That's pretty small of you either way. Do you really think we'd be better of with a Governor Foley? Really?

This is all individualized and rather complicated stuff and the decisions we have the privilege of making by voting can be skin deep at times. The knowledge of how our government works or doesn't and, in the long term, we what might have a ghost of a chance of changing or bringing back to the process should be some part of the thinking.

Differ with me as to the preference of Lamont v. Malloy, that's choosing between two progressive and well-meaning fellas. The idea that anyone willing to be called a Republican in these times is a better choice is, I think, ridiculous.

And vote, dammit. All of you!

Hey Anonymous,

Not a lot of "vitriol" directed against Malloy here (and there's been plenty of it directed toward Ned). But to focus on THAT and then to browbeat Lamont supporters into voting for Malloy (when we probably will anyway) the morning after the primary? Real classy. Maybe not the best way to unite the party after a disappointing loss for Dems who supported Ned.

Brow beat!? Oh, poo. I have done no such thing. Unless you have a brow so sensitive as to suffer a beating you only imagine.

As for vitriol, perhaps I was too sensitive myself, but "scumbag" might count in that category, no?

The comment that got my attention:

"I will not be voting for that scumbag Malloy in November. For the first time in my life I will vote GOP for governor for CT.

And, having reread my earlier comment (10:34 today), I must apologize for typos and the mangling of the grammer-like stuff. I ain't no scribe.

Let's see if progress can be made!

Yeah, I tend to agree that using language like that isn't necessarily helping party unity. I'd prefer if everyone take a few days to get over it, and then work to help a DEMOCRAT win the governor's seat.

I don't have to like everything that Malloy did to win the primary, and it's going to be a long fucking time (or never) before he earns my respect, but I'm still going to work to get the DEMOCRAT elected this Nov.

See? It's not so bad if you think of Malloy as the DEMOCRAT, rather than the guy who approved all those awful ads. I'm not going to "stand with Dan"; I'm going to stand with the DEMOCRAT in this race.

Whatever it takes to get over this, I'm willing to try.

Well said, Bob.

Anonymous,

Take another look at what I actually wrote in my post. I wonder if your tortuous--and tortured--syntax might be in the way of your reading.
