Chris Shays Fails to Understand

I received this video from someone who stayed around after last night's debate between Chris Shays and Jim Himes at Fairfield University. The Shays campaign has been handing out these long pamphlets that outline all his supposed accomplishments.

Shays was confronted by a man who ask him to sign his "manifesto" (which right away may have tipped Chris off that he wasn't very happy). The man, a Fairfield homeowner, had recently lost his job and asked how he was supposed to pay his mortgage?

Chris was long on bluster but short on helpful answers. Watch the video:

(I would have taped it myself, but I was forbidden from shooting any video at this public political event because apparently the woman in charge is either a complete fascist about their arbitrary rules, or she's a closet Chris Shays supporter who understands that the more people who see Jim Himes will vote for him. After arguing with her for some minutes I realized that the public interest isn't welcome at the very appropriately initialed "F.U.", so I left.)

How the hell can progressives support someone who is a wall street insider and on his web site uses it as a badge of honor? shays has to go but himes is not the answer. He is a capitalist (goldman sachs) and his policies are the usual help the middle class so they will spend more increasing wall streets profits. You jokers think you can fool us but you are very transparent. First it was lamont, big whoop he opposed the iraq war, yet he was and is a very wealthy individual who is from GREENWICH. give me a break. Wall streeters are not progressives and neither are you for supporting them. TRUE progressives want wall street destroyed and replaced with a financial system where an individual has only enough wealth for his needs and no more. in short everybody has the same. no rich no poor.To claim to be a progressive and hobnbbing with the wealthy shows you to be nothing more than the lackeys and tools of capitalists.

Himes is worth between 2.4 and 5 million dollars. he has some balls to call himself a progressive. typical wall streeter, instead of giving it to those who are poor he greedly keeps his wealth, while the poor freeze and starve. No wonder he wouldn't answer the question in the interview.

Blah blah blah blah.

Simply repeating your inane GOP talking points won't convince anyone that Jim Himes isn't a huge improvement over "Both Ways Shays", the man who adores George Bush and nearly never dares go against the party on anything important.

Grow up, you stupid young pup.

Again bob address what I am saying, you and your fake progressives support a millionaire who made it on wall street as a BANKER. lets face it he is a capitalist. calling me a gop member only obscures the fact that you won't address what I am saying. Come on bob answer my charges directly, do you or do you not support a capitalist yes or no. shays isn't the issue but rather your support of a multi millionaire who made his fortune on the backs of the working class. Gee how many sub primes did he wink and nod at. Either your for elimination of the moneyed class or your not bob. take a stand one way or another. either you believe in economic equality or you don't so far your support of a millionaire wall street BANKER pretty much reveals the truth. Admit it bob you have no problem with economic injustice. If you claim the progressive tag you should be supporting those who would abolish wealth gathering by ANYONE. So please insult me if you wish or try to cast doubt on my sincerity, but please address my main point,: why do you support wall street BANKERS rather than the poor. We can omit the middle class because they only enable the rich. So go ahead bob after the rape committed by wall street how can you support any of them. The rich look out for themselves and they use the iraq war as cover to get folks like you to carry their water.

It's okay, Bob. The young pup is in his teenage Bill Ayers phase right now. Wait until he discovers that this isn't some revolutionary new attitude he has.

You guys just won't refute what I say about himes, reason being is you know i'm right. Of course my ideas aren't new. Ideas of economic equality have been around forever, sadly I would have hoped that you would be able to see that electing or reelecting those who enrich themselves at workers expense is not a good thing. As for as mr. ayres he was involved with a group that used violence, hardly someone to emulate. But then again I see that himes, shays courtney murphy larsen, dodd lieberman all support the so called ct defense industry, it only exists to make weapons. How can you support those who murder? We have a chance to instruct these "represenatives" to stop all goverment contracts with these soulless corporations. But no, people like himes need paid killers aka armed forces to protect their wealth and you guys just go along. You protest a war yet you proclaim support for those who murder iraqi, afghan and now pakistani civilians. As to the issue of economic equality do you guys think you should be paid more than others? Or do you agree that all should be equal regardless of job? If politicians had the guts they could strip every dollar from the wealthy, use it to provide homes, food and clothing for every citizen. then we would have a self supporting sociey of equals. But no you want wall street BANKERS to take over from other wall streeters.

Jesus dude, take a fucking chill pill, will ya?

Yes, Jim WAS a VP at Goldman Sachs. He also spent the last SIX YEARS building housing for low income families and worked extensively in green technologies to help reduce energy and utility costs.

Face it, stupid; America is in a BUSINESS crisis right now, and having someone with some business experience in Congress is probably a good thing.

And while Jim's personal worth is demonstrably above middle class, he's not what is considered "wealthy" by today's standards. He lives in a nice but not immodest house in Cos Cob, and he worked for everything he has. Most members of Congress are in similar circumstances.

So yeah, I WOULD like to see someone with some Wall Street experience working in Washington to help SOLVE the problems on Wall Street.

Wall Street IS THE CAUSE of all that is wrong with this world. That is exactly why we DON'T need them running things. He did low income housing? let him give up his 2-5 million dollar worth and live in an apartment in bridgeport. Guess what he ain't doing it. Once again despite the rhetoric from you faux progressives, ultimately the republicrats are still capitalist partys 1&2. Just a side note, you do realize how ludicrous you sound by saying himes isn't wealthy or downplay the fact he lives in cos cob? He chooses to live in caucasianville usa. 2-5 mil not wealthy with a 150,000 a year salary? Yeah right. It is funny however watching the 2 capitalist parties fight. We only have to sit back and wait. When you destroy yourselves WE will finally put to death, the colluss of evil known as the us. It is inevitable, the freeing of this world from capitalism. The repubs= blatant capitalism, the dems= subtle capitalism yet both are capitalists. As I stated before both parties support the death merchants of the ct "defense industry". If the us disbanded its military and the para military known as law enforcement, then you would have no need of defense, because you would not be murdering people around the globe. If you have to feel retribution from the rest of the world, to bad, you certainly deserve it. So go ahead insult me it only proves how right I am because you can't refute what I say. Please drop the progressive label because you guys still believe in an unjust economic policy. Lives in cos cob but he ain't wealthy! has to be the funniest thing I have read all year.

O'Bama 08

Bob, I saw a shirt that said that at this year's St. Paddy's parade back in March. It was in green lettering, and said "O'Bama" superimposed over a green shamrock.

It was pretty cool. I wished I'd gotten a picture.

Hi Bob,
I saw this video front-paged on Firedoglake this morning (10/21).
Jane Hamsher posted it and she credits you as the taper.

Yeah, I noticed it much too late today, but I posted a late comment saying that I merely posted the video, didn't shoot it. I appreciate the nice words from everyone there, but I don't want to take undeserved credit.
