Stevens found guilty...who'da thunk it?

File this one in the "No Shit, Sherlock" Department; Alaska GOP Sen. Ted "Intertubes" Stevens was found incredibly guilty on all seven counts of being a big fat liar.

The pre-stock market-crash-born senator (the "real" crash; you know, the one in 1929) apparently fucking well knew he was getting free goods and services from powerful corporate interests in Alaska, and he still chose to flaunt the law and not pay for them.

In related news, a bill was introduced in the Alaskan legislature late today to change the name of "Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport" to something a little more relevant, such as shown below:

Update: Markos reports that Sen. Stevens, as a convicted felon, can't vote for himself next week.

Wouldn't it be funny if he lost by one vote?

I prefer something simpler.

How about 'Convicted Felon Ted Stevens Anchorage Int'l Airport'?

Since he's a Republican, it should say "Ted the Thief Anchorage . . . ."

Another GOPer bites the dust! I can hardly wait for the goverment checks to pay off my debts. Election day can't come soon enough. The presidency, the house and a veto proof senate! Perhaps NOW we can outlaw the GOP or at least put a few in the hospital to discourage the rest.

You're hysterical.

I don't think anyone wants to outlaw the GOP, but we do want the crooked ones out of positions of power and possibly in jail if their crime warrants a sentence.

Even though I don't mention it very often, I'm a big fan of the two-party system. We need two parties just like we need the checks and balances that were written into the Constitution (although the current administration has done much to destroy it). Any true Republican, especially those who worship St. Ronnie, will agree with me.

Uh, Bob, I wasn't kidding. We can make the rules now. Republicans are and have been the bane of this country. Eliminate them and voila! society is fair, capitalism is destroyed and the rich will have to pay for their crimes. Where in the constitution is there a requirement for a 2 party system? We can and should make it impossible for the republicans to exist. With them gone think how nice life will be! No poor, no rich and no middle class! We will all be the same wealth wise. It is so close and once in power only cowardice on the democrats part can stop it.

Bullshit. You're being an ass. Go away.

Pardon my lack of details, but a couple of years ago when he didn't have his way in the Senate he wanted to cut any more spending on heating bill help to the Northeast. If that made one family go cold, may he rot in hell along with the slap on the wrist he'll recieve for a sentence. J.C., Sr.

I don't remember that specifically, but it seems like something he'd be capable of. There's a great clip somewhere of him screaming "No!" repeatedly while speaking to the Senate. Made quite an impression.

Found the No! clip. See my next post.

The repugs need to clean up their own party. You are starting to see it, Powell calling them out is a start. Republicans endorsing Obama (and no I don't mean that sniveling idiot Scott McClellan) is the start to their internal battle for control of their party. It would be nice if the sane people won, but if the Palins and Huckabees win control then we will be in for more cultural battles and a lot more Democratic years.
I know we all prefer to win every election, but I would also like to see the wackadoodle Repugs and their self-righteous Fundy friends beaten back into the holes of shame which they have crawled of out. I could deal with elections against sane fiscally conservative Republicans.

Actually, tho' anon hasn't worked the thought through to its end, the facts raised are (sadly) too accurate.

The GOP needs a "Home-makeover, extreme edition"..maybe they can get the caffeine-addled host to help.

Beyond that thought, my only prayer is that they jettison Slo-moJoe-Mo....

So I guess the answer is that though you guys talk alot you and by extension the Democrats are going to let the best chance for true economic equality to slip away. Why would any of you be opposed to having EVERYBODY make the same amount of money? Overnight the #1 source of trouble (FINANCIAL) is gone. All you guys are doing is showing that you want to maintain an unequal economic system. Barney Frank talks of a 25% cut in defense spending, Why not 99%? As I have said before if this capitalist entity (us) doesn't have a military or at the least pulls ALL military out of other countries then there would be no need for "defense" spending. If the us unilateraly destroys its nukes why would any other country need them? In short I see a great oppourtunity for REAL economic justice and a disarmed us is a threat to no other country. But from your responses it is obvious that instead of "meaningful change" we will get more class struggle and the ever present threat of nuclear destruction. Why in the world would any of you even think of wanting a republican party to exist?

I'll tell you what. Give me examples of all those one-party democracies that work so well.

Oh wait, there aren't any!

Maybe you should start an Anarchist's blog. I'd love to read your rants somewhere other than in the comments here. Start a blog. It's easy. Go to Blogger.com and select "Create a blog". Then you can change the world yourself.
