LW: Joe Lieberman - Conservative Stooge

Senator Lieberman consoles Dick Cheney
after the Libby verdict was announced

Lieberman Watch: Joe Lieberman recently spoke on the behalf of a Bush nominee for an ambassadorship to Belgium.

"Sam Fox represents what America is all about," he said, "and that's why he will be, when confirmed, an extraordinary ambassador."

Sam Fox is also an extreme right-wing supporter who financed the "Swift-Boat Veterans For Truth", the 527-group that slandered John Kerry's heroic military record, while simultaneously ignoring President Chimpy's equally heroic service in the Champagne Squadron of the Texas Air-National Guard, where he bravely ingested gallons of Jack Daniels and snorted mounds of Peruvian Flake while not showing up for his one weekend a month.

Sam Fox is obviously a generous man who deserves to be ambassador. Why, he even selflessly gave $10,500 to Senator Lieberman the day AFTER the November election. Sam's equally generous wife ALSO donated $10,500 to Joe on the same day.

Wow, what a terrific couple of Americans.

No wonder Joe gave Mr. Fox such a glowing endorsement. He recognizes the man's generosity.

(Note: The excellent Joe Lieberman watchdog blog "LieberWatch" has been fairly quiet lately, so I've decided to reactivate my periodic "Lieberman Watch" series. Hopefully we'll see LieberWatch continue its good work in the future.)

CT Bob,

After doing a little research I found that Sam Fox has done great things for his community in Missouri and is considered an outstanding citizen. Maybe this is what Lieberman’s comments were referring to.

As for Swift Boat (which I totally disagree with), when 2008 comes around are we going to criticize every ambassador who gave money to or participated with anti-Bush organizations, I don’t think so. To be completely fair and balanced (which I not sure you are trying to be) you need to look at scenarios from both sides.

The money going to Lieberman AFTER the election does sound a little sketchy, although I doubt Fox was trying to buy an ambassadorship.

Bad LieberWatch. I'm sure you can dig up something that is less "Fox Newsish" and actualy has some relevance

For a self-proclaimed "Democrat fer life" to support a far-right-wingnut like Fox at all is important to cover.

This is not "bi-partisan" (another of his "self-calimed" attributes) nor is it showing any allegiance to the Democratic party whatsoever.

This the farright-wingnuttyness that defines Joe Liberman.

CT Man 1,
You are exactly what I hate about Politics.

Basically what you are saying is that just because of a person’s political/social views they can not be a good person or be competent enough for an ambassador job and should not be endorsed by the opposite political party.

I’ll tell you right now that this rational is not the why the average American thinks.

I think you need a reality check

Well DUH!

Would you send a Nazi to be the Ambassador to Israel? A Klansman to Kenya? OF COURSE someone's political/social views should count.

anon - while Fox may have done some helpful things for Missouri (and I'll admit that I don't know what he has done, but Sen. McCaskill from MO has spoken out for him, so he may have done something good; or he may have donated to her campaign, too) I can't forgive him his support of a group that played such a visible role in spreading lies and mistruths about Kerry and subverting the electoral process in 2004.

If Fox knew the details about the Swift Boat group and supported them, he doesn't DESERVE to be ambassador.

If Fox didn't know anything about the group he donated $50K to, then he's too DUMB to be ambassador.

Either way, Joe Lieberman gladly took $21K from the guy who helped Bush, and THEN spoke at a sub-committee that he isn't even ON in support of the guy. How is that supposed to look? If you consider this a bad Lieberman Watch, then I don't know what would make a good one.

You can draw your own conclusions from the facts, or choose to ignore them. Either way, I'm going to continue to point out Joe's activities when I feel they deserve to be discussed.

All you guys are upset with is that Lieberman supported and took money from a right-wing politician. In my book there is nothing wrong with that.

Maybe next to your palpay donation button you should put "For Democrats/Liberals Only"

Either way I enjoyed the discussion. Thank you CT Bob for provoking thought

anon - you're welcome, and feel free to add to the discussion.

And just to prove that you're wrong about the "Democrats/Liberals Only" policy; if Sam Fox wants to contribute the same $50,000 he gave to the Swift Boat Vets to my tip jar, I'll fucking name the blog after him and write nothing but positive stories about what a great ambassador to Belgium he'll make! LOL!

first of all, Lieberman took Lots of money from Lots of right wing politicians (and just plain ole Republicans).

The fact that THIS right wing politician was connected with perhaps the slimiest Smear campaign that was ever enacted makes THIS right wing politican a dirt bag. that's the point!
