Sure, he misspoke

"First of all, from what I understand from doctors, [pregnancy from rape] is really rare," ... "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Ah, Jesus...I don't even know where to begin with this colossal dunderhead!

Rep. Todd Akin (R-no surprise) has voiced what may be the single most misogynistic phrase ever uttered during a senate campaign.

It really bothers me that there are people like this who have some say in how our government creates and upholds laws.

Somebody, please tell me, just how fucking stupid do you have to be to win a congressional seat in Missouri? Not to mention the obvious lack of intelligence displayed by the voters who put this jackass in Congress!

#legitimaterape is trending on Twitter like crazy right now.

Well Todd, you finally got noticed for something you said. I hope you're enjoying your moment in the spotlight!

Even more depressing is that he's on the House Science and Technology Committee. Just like Michele Bachmann is on the House Intelligence Committee.
Totally screwed.

Well, it's looking more and more like the idiot will be stepping aside from his senate campaign. At least there's that! And his remarks opens up a discussion on the GOPs "war on women", which is long overdue.

I say let people speak what they want and exercise their freedom of speech even if we disagree with them.

Not defending what he said, but each of us, here and now, should have freedom of speech & let them be commended or bashed. Thanks for the article.

He's only expressing what the GOP believes. His mistake was spilling the beans.

Summer, I agree totally with what you said. But that freedom comes with some responsibility, and that dolt clearly doesn't have a clue about women's health. If anything, I'm thankful that our freedom of speech exists, which makes it easier for voters to decide for whom to elect.

SummerRain is too tolerant! I for one am celebrating Akin's free speech. Vagabond nails it. CTBob asks "just how fucking stupid do you have to be"? The point Akin reinforces is that GOPers can afford to be as stupid as they are because they have the money which entitles them to be stupid. And stupid does as stupid is.

Actually, I do think it's better for all of us if Akin stays in the race. McCaskgill will win easily and the Senate majority will stay with the Dems.

Which is good, considering that Romney's numbers are somewhat disturbing, and if we get a GOPer in the White House AND lose the majority in the Senate, there won't be ANYTHING to stop them!
