What's it All About, Bushman?

A very interesting choice for the SecDef nominee. If confirmed, it will put a 4-star in charge at the CIA and a CIA chief in charge at the Pentagon. I stand by my analysis of Lieberman I posted earlier today before Gates was announced -- I think that would have been the Rove call, no question. Now, I think Rove and Cheney are sleeping on the porch, and this proved that Bush wants to save his legacy more than anything. I will be particularly watching if there is still such a push on unitary executive -- or if Bush is now seeing that he sat in the back while the big boys drove him off a cliff, and Bush loyalty is all about the family -- and Cheney is not a part of the family.

A psychologist would be on the couch with all the father-son weirdo stuff going on here -- but how interesting that Bush 41 looks a whole lot better to us than he originally did because Bush 43 is so bad. Maybe 43 figures going back to the daddy well (Gates, Baker, Scowcroft, Condi) and kicking the neocons to the curb is his only chance at any legacy rehabilitation.

For once, the blogosphere rapid response that was so important during the election cycle is not as essential here -- I will be looking forward to the long-range analysis that will take a week or two to put together.

In the end, keep in mind Chairman Conyers, Judiciary, with subpoena power. Now that's what I think of when I think of checks and balances. Those rubber stamps are running out of ink fast.

"Collateral damage", was the best way I heard the sacking of Rumsfeld put today. He'll probably receive The Presidential Medal of Freedom, knowing Bush.

On the radio on the drive home, Mike Savage (usually a total jackass) suggested sending Rumsfeld to the front. Normally, I ignore the rantings of Savage, but this triggered a little day dream...

How's driving around Baghdad in an unarmored HUMVEE with poor body armor for justice?

I can not imagine the feelings of the parents who had their kids killed in Iraq this week. It must be awful to listen to President Bush talk about "Victory" in Iraq, while at the same time he clearly has no idea how to achieve that goal.

Maybe now, with the Democratic Party seizing control of the House and Senate, we will finally get some oversight.

Ya know... it's very scary to have to live throught the Bush family working out their disfunctions on the world stage. And having to think about possible Oedipal issues involving Barbara make me feel a little sick.

I met Congressman Conyers this past month, and I had to love him. At a fundraiser he said, basically, "In Washington, we have Democrats and Republicans. We're over here, they're over there. I don't have any idea who your opponent is, I have no idea about any legislation he might have written. If he was sitting on that sofa, I wouldn't even recognize him."

There are times to be "bi-partisan." Bi-partisan doesn't mean rolling over for something you know is wrong. Joe never met a personal opportunity he wouldn't get down on his knees for. Nobody ever told him that when you lie down with dogs, you get fleas. No wonder there were so many dogs in Joe's ads.

When did getting in bed with evil become a good thing??
(well... nevermind.)

I think we might also keep Harry Reid in mind. We should write him and demand that Joe not be given any seniority. For those of us who are Democrats, we need to start demanding that our party start listening to us. This is 2006, and they need us more than we need them. And speed would be essential in this case.

Okay, I've ranted. Last night I was too tired. This morning I was too sad. The first thing I read was Branford Boy quoting "Dover Beach" -- a poem that carries a lot of meaning for me -- and I just got... verklempt. Tonight I'm angry.

Anger can be a tool.

Thanks for all you've done, and will surely continue to do. Keep being inspiring.

Chele, thanks so much. Kirby hit the nail on the head.

Righteous anger is a good thing. Sometimes anger is a useful tool indeed.

And being creatively pissed-off can be fun, too!

Heck, as long as we're putting all the Iran Contra criminals in charge again, why not bring back Fawn?
